Jannik Sinner, currently ranked as the world number two in tennis, has raised concerns about his participation in the upcoming French Open due to a lingering hip injury. The 22-year-old, who recently claimed his maiden Grand Slam title at the Australian Open in January, was forced to withdraw from both the Madrid and Rome tournaments after sustaining the injury during the Madrid Open.

Initially hopeful of competing, Sinner made the difficult decision to skip the Rome tournament, which runs from May 8-19, in order to focus on his recovery. Speaking to reporters, Sinner admitted that the injury was more severe than initially suspected, and he emphasized the importance of being fully fit before returning to competition.

"At Roland Garros, I'll only play if I'm 100%," Sinner stated. "If there's any doubt, we have to reassess the situation." He highlighted the unpredictability of injuries, noting that while some can be prevented, others are unavoidable.

Despite the disappointment of missing out on valuable match play ahead of the French Open, Sinner acknowledged the necessity of prioritizing his health. "Now I'll have a period without playing," he said. "We need to carefully plan our approach from next week onwards."

Admitting that his preparation for Roland Garros may not be optimal, Sinner remained committed to giving his best effort to compete at the highest level. "Playing a Grand Slam without matches in Rome isn't easy," he admitted. "But we'll do everything possible to arrive in the best possible condition."

Following an MRI scan, Sinner and his team have been closely monitoring his recovery process. "We have everything under control," he assured. "But if the injury isn't fully healed, I won't hesitate to extend my recovery period. Taking care of my body is paramount."

As Sinner navigates this challenging period, his fans remain hopeful for his swift recovery and eventual return to the court. Despite the setbacks, the young Italian's determination and resilience continue to inspire admiration within the tennis community.
