Nelly Korda is determined to maintain her pursuit of history at the Cognizant Founders Cup, refusing to let Rose Zhang and Madelene Sagstrom run away with the tournament and derail her bid to become the first player to win six straight LPGA Tour events.
Despite facing a daunting 10-stroke deficit at the start of her second round on Friday, Korda showcased her resilience by firing a flawless 6-under 66 in chilly, damp conditions. This impressive performance propelled her into third place, just four shots behind leaders Zhang and Sagstrom, with 36 holes remaining.
Korda's bogey-free round, matching the best of the day, was a testament to her skill and determination. Meanwhile, Zhang and Sagstrom maintained their momentum, with Zhang carding a 68 in the morning to complement her remarkable 63 from Thursday, while Sagstrom matched her score in the afternoon.
Both Zhang and Sagstrom have tasted victory once on the LPGA Tour, but it's Korda who has been on a historic winning streak, securing five consecutive victories to tie the tour record held by Hall of Famers Nancy Lopez and Annika Sorenstam.
Korda's exceptional performance included six birdies, culminating with a crucial putt on the 18th hole. Despite trailing by four shots at the halfway point, Korda remains undeterred, having faced similar deficits in previous tournaments where she ultimately emerged victorious.
